Korematsu, Yasui, Hirabayashi Families to File Brief in Supreme Court Case on Muslim Ban

The families of Fred Korematsu, Minoru Yasui, and Gordon Hirabayashi will file an amicus brief in the U.S. Supreme Court in the cases related to  Executive Order No. 13780, more commonly known as the “travel ban.”

The brief, which will be led by the Fred. T. Korematsu Center for Law and Equality and which, in addition to the Korematsu, Yasui, and Hirabayashi families, will include a broad coalition of civil rights organizations, bar associations, will connect the White House’s anti-immigrant, anti-Muslim posture with the unconstitutional incarceration of Japanese Americans during WWII as an urgent warning against unchecked presidential actions.

The legal teams that filed the historic coram nobis petitions in the 1980s are coordinating this effort with the Korematsu Center and attorneys from Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP.  In addition, the coram nobis attorneys are spearheading are a national outreach and public education campaign centered around the Supreme Court brief and are currently seeking volunteers to assist with those efforts.
